New Synoiz SKatterBrain Remix / First Day In Cornwall

Posted 2nd September 2010

New Synoiz Remix + SKatterBrain Album Out Now!

Just because it's more important than my holiday ramblage I'll start by telling you that the new album "The Basic Condition of Life" by SKatterBrain (aka Dan303) is out now for only £1 via BandCamp.

Also released which compliments the album nicely is a remixed version entitled "The Basic Condition of Life Remixed" (you probably could have guessed that one!) featuring remixes by some other great artists and includes an exclusive new remix by myself of the opening track on the album "The Most Impossible Plan" which I've totally ruined by making into a trance/dance/thing mix. LOLz.

First Day In Cornwall

Well here we are, after a gruelling 9 hour long drive from my place in Sunderland (note that I wasn't driving so had to pass the time by trying to annoy Kirsty and fulfilling my duties in giggling at silly place names and pointing at things out that window that she blatantly can't look at lol), we're finally here in Cornwall. When we arrived yesterday we were both pretty shattered but still found time to get some sightseeing done and on the night time I had a tweet-up with the lovely Simon Clements-Hawes who is just a great example of what awesome like-minded people you can meet through the power of Twitter. (Are you drilling cat?)

Today on our first full-length day we got a guided tour around Truro Cathedral and learned some amazing stuff about how long it took to build as well as local history such as how the idea of an annual harvest festival came to be. However we did have to resist the urge to murder one woman in the tour group who was just one of these on-holiday-on-their-own-but-needs-to-suck-up-to-the-guide types (OHOTOBNTSUTTGT for easy remembering). After getting some tea at a nice little tea shop (and nearly getting out the door before remembering we needed to pay) we were back in the car and off to Lizard Point.

Lizard Point

Okay this is by far one of the most beautiful and scenic places I have ever been, and rather then try to describe it I'll just post some photos I took while we were down there. It's so nice to finally get to this place as it's always been on my "places I want to visit" list since I saw it on a globe in my dad's old work place as a kid. The name made me laugh and so I've always remembered it and said "I'll go there one day", now I have. Awesome. To see the full set of photos so far in Cornwall, check them out on Flickr here!

Shock! Horror! Promotional Release | Cornwall Holiday | Interview

Posted 23rd August 2010

Hey everyone, argh how long has it been? I'm getting really rubbish at this blogging thing. I remember before I released anything and was still tweaking the album, I used to blog loads (even though I had little to mention) and now that I have loads going on and lots of cool stuff to share I never sit myself down to blog at all!

Cornwall Holiday

Well I've got about 13 tracks written and so it's time for myself and Kirsty to sit down and work on the lyrics and the vocals for our debut album together. This will be a side project under a joint name for us (revealed later!) and considering that the album is entirely synthetic pop, we thought the best place to go for lyrical inspiration would be rural Cornwall! (It seemed a good idea at the time, so expect lots of synth dance tracks about getting a good price on your mare at the weekly market). If Kirsty let's me I'll try to get some videos and blogs done while we're down there.

Shock! Horror! Promotional Single

Okay, okay you all knew it was going to happen, but I made a silly promise on election night that if the Conservatives got into power over here in England that I would release the nightmarish track Shock! Horror! as a promotional Halloween single (to punish the world for letting this happen).

The artwork and a possible video are still being worked on but the release will be towards the end of October. The single will be free to download and currently the tracklisting is planned to be as follows:

  1. Shock! Horror! (Album Version)
  2. Shock! Horror! (Sinister Mix)
  3. Shock! Horror! (Acoustic Edit) [Unconfirmed]
  4. Shock! Horror! (Remix) [Artist Unconfirmed]

Perfect for Halloween eh?

Interview with Olaf from Joint Venture Radio

A few weeks ago I was on holiday to visit friends and family in Germany and I got time to meet up with the amazing Olaf from wonderful Synoiz supporters Joint Venture Radio in his home town of Bremen. We recorded a lengthy two hour interview discussing everything from Ambients to Kirsty's album (including announcing the name of the side project) to the long suffering Darkling EP. I'm not sure when the episode/s with the interview on will air but stay tuned!

I've got lots more news to give you including photos from Germany, some remixes I've done/am working on, and my inclusion on an upcoming collaboration album to mark the 25th anniversary of the Chernobyl disaster from Ambientaria Records.

Until then, see you later, for the latest ramblings and news, check my Twitter.
